Border Barriers Block Villagers’ Return in Prey Chan Village, BANTEAY MEANCHEY Province

ANTEAY MEANCHEY — Prey Chan village in O’Chrov district has become one of the areas affected by new border security measures imposed by Thailand during the implementation of the ceasefire agreement.

Thai military forces have installed shipping containers and barbed wire along the border near the village, restricting access and raising safety concerns.

Located in O’Bei Choan commune, the village is home to around 270 families who remain unable to return to their homes due to the barriers and ongoing security risks.

When reporters visited the area on Jan. 4, it was eerily quiet, with only a few households’ pets remaining. Meanwhile, several Cambodian civilians whose houses are located along Road 58 in the village briefly returned to collect some belongings before leaving for displacement sites.
