Cambodia Provides Full Support to ASEAN Observer Team

Eighteen days after the ceasefire came into effect—from December 27, 2025, to January 13, 2026—Cambodia has provided full support to the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT), according to H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, Spokeswoman of the Ministry of National Defence.

Since the ceasefire entered into force, Cambodia has consistently respected and implemented the Ceasefire Agreement, the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand signed on October 26, 2025, the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special Meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) on December 27, 2025, as well as other relevant documents, she said.

“Cambodia has provided full support to the AOT and has emphasised the indispensable importance of strengthening the AOT’s role and mandate. This support aims to verify and ensure the full and effective implementation of the ceasefire while promoting transparency, accountability, and mutual trust,” the Spokeswoman underlined.

She added that, during the first two weeks of January, the Cambodian Liaison Group (CLG) of the Ministry of National Defence closely coordinated with the AOT to observe, verify, and report on the situation at several locations in Oddar Meanchey, Banteay Meanchey, and Preah Vihear provinces. All of the inspected sites were civilian areas and infrastructure that had been severely damaged by Thai military attacks.

The observation missions were conducted as follows:

• Sunday, January 4, 2026: The AOT observed, verified, and reported on the situation at O’Jik Bridge, located between Chongkal district, Oddar Meanchey province, and the border of Srei Snam district, Siem Reap province.

• Monday, January 5, 2026: The AOT observed, verified, and reported on the situation at the Choam International Point of Entry in Anlong Veng district, Oddar Meanchey province.

• Tuesday, January 6, 2026: The AOT observed, verified, and reported on the situation in Prey Chan and Chouk Chey villages, O’Beichoan commune, O’Chrov district, Banteay Meanchey province.

• Thursday, January 8, 2026: The AOT observed, verified, and reported on the situation in the O’Smach International Point of Entry area, O’Smach commune, Samrong city, Oddar Meanchey province.

• Saturday, January 10, 2026: The AOT observed, verified, and reported on the situation at the Boeung Trakoun Point of Entry area in Thmar Puok district, Banteay Meanchey province. On the same day, the team also visited displaced civilians at Wat Kandol camp in Thmar Puok district.

• Tuesday, January 13, 2026: The AOT observed, verified, and reported on the situation in civilian village areas of Sra’em commune, Choam Ksan district, Preah Vihear province, as well as the vicinity of Preah Vihear Temple, one of the world’s most valuable cultural heritage sites.

“As a law-abiding and responsible state, Cambodia strictly adheres to the peaceful resolution of disputes in accordance with international law and the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter and the ASEAN Charter,” the Spokeswoman said. “Cambodia firmly opposes the threat or use of force and seeks a just, impartial, and lasting solution that will serve as the foundation for peaceful coexistence, stability, and development for the peoples of both countries.”
