Cambodian Ambassador Welcomes Georgian Envoy, Seeks Support for Heritage Candidacy.

H.E. Dr. Chea Chanboribo, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Cambodia to Bulgaria, received a courtesy call today from H.E. Zurab Khamashuridze, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Republic of Bulgaria, at the Royal Embassy of Cambodia in Sofia.

Ambassador Chea Chanboribo congratulated Ambassador Khamashuridze on his recent appointment, expressing confidence that the friendship and cooperation between Cambodia and Georgia would continue to flourish.

The diplomats noted that since establishing relations on Nov. 17, 1994, the two nations have built cordial and meaningful ties founded on mutual respect and shared aspirations for peace and development.

Ambassador Chanboribo expressed satisfaction with recent progress, particularly the enhanced political dialogue and cooperation strengthened through memoranda of understanding and exchange visits.

He stated his optimism that bilateral cooperation would expand into promising areas such as trade, investment, tourism, cultural exchange, education, and technology.

The goal, he noted, is to foster new opportunities through stronger business partnerships and people-to-people relations that contribute to sustainable economic growth and mutual understanding.

During the meeting, the Cambodian side put forward several specific proposals aimed at deepening the partnership:

• Support for Heritage Candidacy: Cambodia officially sought Georgia's support for its candidacy for membership in the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICS-ICH) for the Asia-Pacific Group for the 2026-2030 term. The elections are scheduled for June 2026 in Paris.

• Media and Information: Strengthening cooperation and information exchange between the sole State-owned Agence Kampuchea Presse (AKP) and Georgia's official news agencies, including joint efforts to combat misinformation and fake news.

• Education: Promoting academic exchanges, providing scholarship opportunities for Cambodian students, and establishing partnerships between universities in both countries.

• Trade and Investment: Organising a business and trade meeting between the chambers of commerce and entrepreneurs of both countries to explore investment and partnership opportunities.

Ambassador Chea Chanboribo reaffirmed Cambodia’s unwavering commitment to further strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation with Georgia through continued dialogue and joint initiatives for the mutual benefit of both nations.
