Cambodian and Romanian Ambassadors Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Ties in Sofia

H.E. Dr.CHEA Chanboribo, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Cambodia to the Republic of Bulgaria, held a courtesy meeting today with H.E. Mrs. Brândușa Ioana Predescu, Ambassador of Romania to the Republic of Bulgaria.


During the meeting, Ambassador CHEA Chanboribo expressed his honour in serving as Cambodia’s official representative to Romania, describing Romania as a vibrant nation with a rich cultural heritage and a strong sense of unity among its people.


On behalf of the Royal Government of Cambodia, he reaffirmed his commitment to advancing political, economic, cultural, and cooperative ties between Cambodia and Romania.


Ambassador CHEA Chanboribo highlighted Cambodia’s intention to promote greater awareness of its history and culture among the Romanian people, emphasising that strengthening mutual understanding and connections between the two nations remains a priority.


Underscoring the importance of effective diplomacy, the Cambodian ambassador proposed enhancing media cooperation between the national news agency of Cambodia, Agence Kampuchea Presse (AKP), and Romania’s AGERPRES, to improve information exchange and mutual visibility.


He also expressed Cambodia’s readiness to initiate and support projects aimed at deepening bilateral relations in trade, investment, tourism, culture, education, and sports. Noting Romania’s strengths in information technology, the automotive sector, and agriculture, he conveyed Cambodia’s interest in exploring these areas as promising fields for future collaboration.


Ambassador CHEA Chanboribo further expressed Cambodia’s aspiration to establish a Cambodia–Romania Chamber of Commerce, envisaging it as a platform to facilitate dialogue and foster new investment opportunities that would benefit both nations.


Reaffirming Cambodia’s commitment to peace and respect for the principles of sovereignty and non-interference, he addressed the border issue with Thailand, reiterating Cambodia’s stance that resolution through legal proceedings at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) represents the most appropriate and peaceful path forward, ensuring stability for future generations.


Concluding the meeting, Ambassador CHEA Chanboribo expressed optimism that the friendship and cooperation between Cambodia and Romania would continue to grow, serving the best interests of both countries and their peoples.


Following the meeting, H.E. CHEA Chanboribo presented the Romanian diplomat with Khmer hand-made scarves as souvenirs. The scarves, which have been inscribed in world heritage and tourist guidebooks, showcase Cambodia’s rich cultural craftsmanship.
