As part of its national mission to explore global markets for Khmer products, Cambodia is showcasing a wide range of local products at World Expo 2025, which is currently being held in Osaka, Kansai, Japan. The expo starts today and will run for six months until October 13, 2025.
Samheng Bora, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Commerce (MoC) and head of the Cambodian team at World Expo 2025, presided over the launching ceremony of the Cambodia Pavilion.
According to the press statement issued by the ministry on Saturday, the ceremony was also attended by Kao Kim Hourn, Secretary General of Asean, and Tuy Ry, Cambodian Ambassador to Japan, along with senior MoC officials.
“Cambodia is bringing all of its products here, ranging from cashew nuts, fragrant rice, to silver and copper sculptures, souvenirs, clothes, golden silk and artistic works. We also have a video presentation highlighting our tourism offerings and the country’s economic potential encompassing economic, trade and investment spheres,” the statement said.
According to the ministry, Cambodia has chosen Koh Ker Temple as centerpiece while setting up its pavilion. “This reflects Cambodia’s unwavering commitment to preserving the cultural heritage while showcasing the architectural and artistic excellence of the Khmer civilization.
In addition, the Cambodian Pavilion also hosts the Kou Prey sculpture, Cambodia’s national animal, reflecting on the country’s biodiversity. Among other attractions at the pavilion is an Angkor Wat bas-relief featuring the ‘Churning of the Ocean of Milk’, which is the perfect blend of Khmer mythology and craftsmanship.
Traditional Khmer bamboo houses exemplify Cambodia’s architectural heritage, and a maquette of Angkor Wat Temple traces back to the great Khmer civilisation.
The pavilion’s central landscape highlights a panoramic view of lush rice fields, emphasising the country’s agricultural potential and renowned rice products.
