Minister of Agriculture Urges Four Ambassadors to Promote Investment Potential in Cambodia

Phnom Penh: H.E. Dith Tina, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, along with ministry leadership, welcomed newly appointed Cambodian Ambassadors to Bulgaria, Belgium, Brunei Darussalam, and the Philippines in a courtesy meeting on the afternoon of February 6, 2025, at the ministry headquarters.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the minister congratulated the four ambassadors on their new roles and upcoming diplomatic missions. He outlined Cambodia’s agricultural policy, emphasizing food security, economic and environmental sustainability, and the nation's transition from food scarcity to self-sufficiency. The minister stressed the need to enhance processing, packaging, and export capabilities to reach international markets, ensuring long-term economic growth.

He highlighted Cambodia’s key agricultural products with high potential for investment, including rice, mangoes, mangosteens, pepper, and bananas. He called for increased investment in processing facilities to boost exports, enhance value-added production, and benefit Cambodian farmers. Cambodia is open to investors in agricultural industries, input production, and services that can help process and export local products without competing directly with local farmers. The ambassadors were encouraged to explore opportunities to attract investors and seek international support for Cambodia’s agricultural sector.

H.E. Dith Tina emphasized the importance of opening international markets and urged the ambassadors to facilitate negotiations, promote Cambodia’s food safety standards, and advocate for the recognition of Cambodian agricultural products while prioritizing national interests. He also touched on carbon credit initiatives and natural resource conservation, urging careful consideration of sovereignty and long-term benefits for the Cambodian people.

In closing, the four newly appointed ambassadors expressed their gratitude for the minister’s insights and guidance. They pledged to strengthen international cooperation, attract investment, and contribute to the growth of Cambodia’s agriculture and other key sectors.
