Takeo Province Rallies for Release of Soldiers, Commemorates Fallen Troops.

A large-scale Peace Walk took place in Takeo province on Sept. 1, with more than 10,000 people gathering to call for the immediate release of 18 Cambodian soldiers detained by Thailand.

The event, which included a Buddhist memorial ceremony for fallen troops, reflected a strong show of national unity and patriotism.

The march, presided over by Takeo Provincial Council President H.E. Yos Nasy and Provincial Governor H.E. Vei Samnang, began at Takeo Lake Park and proceeded to the Independence Monument in Daun Keo city.

Participants included Buddhist monks, civil servants, armed forces, teachers, students, and local residents.

H.E. Governor Vei Samnang stated that the demonstration affirmed the people's unwavering confidence in the Royal Government of Cambodia and their support for the leadership of Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet. He also announced full backing for the Royal Government’s decision to bring the cases of several disputed temple areas—Tamone Thom, Tamone Tauch, Ta Krabey, and the Mom Bei Area—before the International Court of Justice.

"The peaceful resolution of the Cambodia–Thailand border issue clearly demonstrates that Cambodian people, both monks and laymen, love peace and want to see the nation prosper without war," he said.

The governor praised the soldiers on the frontline for their sacrifice in defending the country's territorial integrity and expressed gratitude to U.S. President Donald Trump for his role in initiating and pushing for the ceasefire. He specifically thanked Trump for urging the unconditional release of the 18 soldiers detained by Thai forces after the truce entered into force at midnight on July 28, 2025.
