Thailand Accused of Grave Violations at World Heritage Site and Civilian Facilities
(AKP Phnom Penh, July 24, 2025 )
Thailand stands accused of severe breaches of international law and the World Heritage Convention following alleged attacks impacting the Preah Vihear Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the destruction of civilian infrastructure, including a pagoda and a health centre.
According to Cambodian authorities, at approximately 5:30 p.m. on July 24, 2025, a Thai F-16 fighter jet reportedly dropped bombs on the Tamone Senchey Pagoda and the Ta Senchey Health Centre. Both facilities are located in Ta Senchey village, Kok Morn commune, Banteay Ampil district, Oddar Meanchey province.
The alleged bombing caused significant damage to the religious compound and the medical facility, both of which provide essential services to the local population.
These actions are being characterised by Cambodian officials as a grave breach of international law.
Earlier on the morning of July 24, Thai armed forces allegedly launched attacks on Cambodian forces stationed at the Tamone Thom Temple and several other locations.
Cambodia asserts these actions constitute a clear violation of its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
