Two Captured Cambodian Soldiers Repatriated

AKP Phnom Penh, August 01, 2025 -

Two of the 20 Cambodian soldiers held in Thai custody since July 29, 2025 have been repatriated at around 11:00 a.m. on Aug. 1 at the O’ Smach International Border Gate in Oddar Meanchey province, according to an AKP correspondent.

The Royal Government of Cambodia continues to call on the Thai side to promptly return the remaining military personnel, as well as any other Cambodian forces still under Thai custody. In parallel, Cambodia is making every effort to ensure the safe and swift return of its soldiers through continued negotiations.

In this context, Cambodia has formally requested Malaysia—in its capacity as Chair of ASEAN and a key facilitator of the ceasefire agreement—to step in as mediator.

H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, Under Secretary of State and Spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defence, emphasised that the Ministry and the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) remain resolute in their commitment to never leave any soldier behind, regardless of the circumstances.
