UNFPA Mobilises Dignity Kits for Women and Girls in Humanitarian Crises in Cambodia.

AKP Phnom Penh, September 02, 2025 --

In order to ensure the well-being of the most-at-risk women and girls, UNFPA, the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency has provided 900 dignity kits for distribution in Cambodia, said an UNFPA’s press release, stressing that this initiative addresses the needs of women and girls impacted by displacement.

During humanitarian emergencies, women and girls face heightened risks including the risks of violence and exploitation, lack of access to water and sanitation and interrupted services and support, the source added.

During emergencies, it continued, often the health and hygiene needs of women and girls can be overlooked. UNFPA is collaborating with key partners to ensure that dignity kits are provided to those that need them the most.

According to the press release AKP received this evening, 680 of the total dignity kits were handed over today to the Cambodian Red Cross (CRC) to be distributed through the CRC’s extensive network, ensuring they reach even the most remote communities affected by disasters, and notably displacement.

The other 220 kits were donated to the Provincial Departments of Women’s Affairs (PDoWA) offices in Preah Vihear province to support GBV survivors in areas affected by displacement and who may be further impacted by natural disasters.

Dignity kits are designed to meet the unique needs of women and girls in emergency and disaster situations. Each kit contains essential hygiene supplies, clothing, and vital information on sexual and reproductive health and rights and information on where to get help if women experience violence.

“During difficult times, women and girls' health needs remain - including their menstrual health and hygiene needs,” stated Ms. Sandra Bernklau, UNFPA Cambodia Representative. “Dignity kits help women and girls at a time when they need support- they provide a few essential supplies to help them during these difficult periods.”

This effort highlights UNFPA's commitment to ensuring access to vital sexual and reproductive health services and protecting women and girls affected by disasters, crisis, and displacement.
